About Citilink Airlines
Citilink is a Indonesian low-cost Airline and a subsidiary of the national carrier Garuda Indonesia. Citilink concentrates on shuttle services between the largest cities in Indonesia.
The company was founded in 2001 as Garuda felt that they had to compete with the many low-cost airlines. But Citilink never got the attention it deserved from its parent. Cititlink typically got the oldest planes from Garuda which Garuda did not use anymore.
In 2011 Garuda announced it would spin-off Citilink with its own licenses and IATA code, allowing it to operate independently. The plan also includes a new advertising strategy, new uniforms, redesigned logo and a new website and new aircraft. In late 2012 Citilink announced they had bought 25 Airbus A320Neo.
These new aircraft will be deployed on new routes Citilink wants to open to cities in Eastern Indonesia as well as to several International routes to Singapore and Malaysia. It plans to quadruple its passenger numbers in two years.
