A flight bound for Malaysia has finally departed Auckland after technical issues kept it grounded for two days, forcing holidaymakers to bunk up at the airport.

MH132 left Auckland International Airport for Kuala Lumpur about 1.30am on Monday, more than 48 hours after its original departure time of Saturday morning.

The overdue flight frustrated passengers and kept Kiwi holidaymakers Tashjian Barklie, 22, and Mighky Emia, 26, from enjoying a trip of a lifetime.

The delay forced them to miss out on their first two days in Manila, but they hoped to get one day there before travelling to the island of Palawan.

"We've just got to wait. It's just a total waste of money. We've paid to stay in accommodation, we've had to pay for extra food," Barklie said.
