Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 Search May Be Suspended by Year-End

Ministers of the three countries looking for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 said on Friday that the chances of finding the plane are fading and the search will be suspended by the end of the year if no fresh leads emerge by then.


Ministers from Malaysia, Australia and China said in a joint statement that the search could be revived if new information emerged after it was suspended. Relations between Malaysia and China have been strained since the Beijing-bound plane went missing with 239 people on board, including more than 150 Chinese nationals.


The announcement appeared to be aimed at preparing families who had been clamoring for results for an end to an emotionally fraught period.
