KUALA LUMPUR: Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERLSB), the owner and operator of the country's international airport express train service, is acquiring six new four-car trains from China to boost its capacity by 50% to meet the growing ridership.

The trains will be built by Changchun Railway Vehicles Co Ltd (CRC). Currently, the KL International Airport (KLIA) express train service is operated by 12 trains that were built in Germany.

ERLSB is a company formed by YTL Corp Bhd, Lembaga Tabung Haji and Trisilco Equity Sdn Bhd with 50%, 40% and 10% stakes respectively. It was awarded a 30-year concession in August 1997 to finance, build, maintain and control the operations of the express rail link to KLIA from the Kuala Lumpur city centre and back.

ERLSB executive chairman Tan Sri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh said testing and commissioning would be carried out on the new trains which would delivered from May to November 2016.
