NEW DELHI: The Modi government seems to have truly made its ministers aam admi. Air India misplaced the check-in luggage of Nirmala Sitharaman, Union minister of state for commerce and industry, in Australia on Friday, a common complaint with its flyers.
Sitharaman had flown AI's Delhi-Melbourne-Sydney flight on Thursday afternoon. She was to take a connecting flight from Sydney to Cairns to attend the ongoing G20 finance ministers and Central Bank governors meeting there.
On arrival in Sydney early on Friday morning (India time), she found that her checked-in luggage was missing. "...had a word of praise for the music collection on board. But now my luggage missing. Hopefully, you'll get it in time for me," she tweeted.
"On board my connecting flight to Cairns. All my formal wear in the lost suitcase! Not sure I can buy Saris in Cairns! Situation precarious!," the senior BJP leader tweeted.
An AI spokesman in Delhi said that the minister's luggage was 'mistakenly' taken off in Melbourne, instead of Sydney where it was supposed to be flown to.
"We are flying the bags to Cairns and they will teach the honourable minister in a few hours. We regret the inconvenience," he said.
