SpiceJet discount fuels fare war between IndiGo, GoAir & Jet Airways

NEW DELHI: In good news for consumers, a discount sale announced by SpiceJet for travel between January and October next year has ensued a fare war in the market with IndiGo, GoAir and Jet AirwaysBSE 0.78 % joining.


SpiceJet has announced to sell one way fares starting as low as Rs 499 (including fuel surcharge but excluding applicable statutory taxes and fees) and the discount sale will be for tickets booked between September 1, 2014 and September 3, 2014 for travel between the periods January 16, 2015 to October 24, 2015.


All other airlines have, however, are offering discounts for tickets booked for travel between January and March next year. They have not matched the SpiceJet's discount tenure.


SpiceJet has reportedly received booking of around 100,000 tickets on the first day of the sale.
