PUNE: Travellers flying in and out of the city's Lohegaon airport can now use a wireless network service, which will be free for the first 30 minutes, at the airport.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI), Pune, in association with private telecom operator Tata Docomo, has introduced the wireless network as part of its passenger friendly initiatives.

"We have started the service on a pilot basis from August 28. It will take a week or more to stabilize, considering technical issues and feedback from passengers and other users," Pune airport director Manoj K Gangal told TOI on Monday.

He said that the eventual object of the service was also to provide guidance to air passengers, information about the airport, flight details and schedules. "The Kolkata airport is already providing such real-time data through their wireless network and we are also working on the same," Gangal said.

Most of the passengers at the airport are business and corporate travellers, foreign tourists, students and government officials and employees. They are frequent users of electronic devices that require wireless internet.
