Cebu Pacific to start long-haul operations

GOKONGWEI-led Cebu Pacific will start its first-ever long-haul flight to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Oct. 7, marking a milestone in the budget carrier's 16-year history, which has focused on domestic and East Asian routes, an official said.


"œAllow me to announce our first long-haul destination: Dubai," Cebu Pacific Chief Executive Officer Lance Y. Gokongwei said at a briefing in Quezon City yesterday.


The company will serve the route daily using an Airbus A330-300, which will arrive in June, Alex B. Reyes, head of the airline's Long-Haul Division, said in the same event.


Mr. Reyes said the company opted to start with Dubai in order to serve around three million overseas Filipinos working in the Middle East.
