About AirAsia

AirAsia is a low-cost Malaysian airline. It operates domestic and international flights to all major Asian cities. AirAsia is the pioneer of low cost airlines in Asia.

Indonesia AirAsia is a subsidiary in which AirAsia has a 49% stake. The airline started operations in 2000 as Awair, but all flights were suspended in March 2002. In December 2004 Awair started again domestically as subsidiary of AirAsia, a year later the name was changed to Indonesia AirAsia.

Each passenger can bring into the cabbin one standard bag with a maximum weight of 7 kg.

Please be aware that in the price of AirAsia tickets is not included any checked baggage. If you want to check-in a bag, you have to pay a fee. This differs per flight, please check the website of AirAsia before placing your booking.

informationCancellations, name changes and refunds

Changing an already booked ticket is allowed in certain circumstances. A change in route is not allowed as is any change to the flight within 48 hours of the departure. Changing the passenger name is allowed up to 6 hours before departure time. For all changes a fee has to be payed for the change to take effect. Here is a link to the fee schedule.

AirAsia has fees for several services that are mostly free on other airlines, although it claims 'No Admin Fee', that's probably the only fee they have not included. AirAsia has currently these fees which come above the ticket price:

  • Seating fee, charged for pre-selecting seats. Fees are higher for 'hot seats' near the front or exits.
  • Convenience fee. Name is weird cause it is just payment fee for every payment made other than direct debit which is only available for customers of certain Malaysian banks.
  • Marked-up airport tax charges: airport taxes are increased a bit.
  • For long-haul flight there is a charge for in-flight entertainment including use of seat-back video.
  • Checked luggage fee. For if you want to check in a bag, you have to pay a fee depending on the weight of your bag
  • Fees for the use of a wheelchair

History AirAsia

Who does not know this airline? Carrying red as the color of its identity, AirAsia had a surprise for the people of Indonesia to launch a low-price flight ticket when other flight ticket’s rates are quite expensive in Indonesia and can only be reached by the upper-middle class people. But AirAsia was brave enough to make another breakthrough than the other carries with its the slogan Now Everyone Can Fly, AirAsia introduced a system of What You Pay Is What You Get that AirAsia flight ticket can be reached by more people in any class. With this system, AirAsia was able to capture the attention of Indonesian airlines consumers and managed to become one of the most desirable airlines to date.

Indonesia AirAsia was first started by PT AWAIR International in September 1999 which had fleet named Awair (Air Wagon International) which established by Abdurrahman Wahid. Awair first began its operations in 2000 to serve many cities in Indonesia and continued with the opening of new routes out of the country, Singapore. But in his first year AWAIR has experienced many obstacles due to intense competition between airlines in Indonesia until finally in 2004, the company was acquired by AirAsiat. After that the PT. AWAIR International changed its name into PT. Indonesia Air Asia with airline called Indonesia AirAsia. After changing the name, the airline re-enlivens the Indonesian aviation world with the concept of low-cost airlines in accordance with the slogan, Now Everyone Can Fly.
